In May of the third year of the Republic of China, the small town of Pianshui on the Hubei-Beijing-Han Railway was backed by the Dabie Mountains. A clear river flowed past the town. The river port was bustling with people carrying bags, cargo, and ferries. There was an endless stream of people of all kinds coming and going.
