This work tells the story of Lin Mei, a 17-year-old girl who was born in a rural family. It is a typical family that favors sons over daughters. The first three of the five children are daughters and the second two are sons. The eldest son is not welcomed because of his intellectual disability. His father Lin Kun and his mother Wang Xiang are not in harmony and quarrel every day. Once, her mother Wang Xiang made up her mind to run away and took away her third daughter Lin Mei, which changed the girl's life.
