This work describes in detail the real-life scenes of a group of outsiders and local villagers who came to Xi'an to work and do business when the building materials market in the northern suburbs of Xi'an emerged in the early 21st century. It records their life experiences of prosperity and decline because of playing mahjong, and tells the story of how they bet their fate on misfortune because of their addiction to playing mahjong.
