Part of the plot draws on some of the deeds of favored concubines such as Concubine Chen, Concubine Dong E, Concubine Nian, Concubine Zhang, Concubine Wan Guifei, Concubine Zhen, and empresses such as Empress Sun and Empress Xu. It's similar to the historical stitch monster.
