In the fourth year of Jianping's reign, the Uyghurs and the Duan Dynasty entered into an alliance, hoping to achieve eternal friendship. At the beginning of the fifth year of Jianping, the Holy Emperor issued an edict to cut off Shuofang's army to save the country's expenses. In winter, when the weather was extremely cold, the Uighurs pretended to be hit by a snowstorm and surrendered to Jiangcang, the king of Zhenbei. They led an ambush to kill the king of Zhenbei when the city gate was open. They then broke into Tingzhou and attempted to massacre the Protectorate of Beiting. Princess Zhenbei led the remnants of Shuofang's army and the people in the city to fight hard. In three days, the city was broken and massacred, with corpses strewn across the fields and mourning everywhere. The emperor was furious and ordered Liang Yicheng, the commander of the Royal Forest Army, to send troops to the northwest. Fortunately, the sky opened his eyes. Jiang Yu, the youngest son of the Jiang family, hid himself in a dry well at night and was saved by the Royal Forest Army. The emperor was grateful for his father's loyalty and his mother's steadfastness, and issued a special edict to take Jiang Yuye, the orphan of the Jiang family, into the palace to raise him. He gave the Qingzhu Pavilion in the palace as a residence, and together with other princes, he went to the ten princes' mansions to receive education and learn the way to govern the world without distinction between high and low.
