As one of the top "powerful" monks in the Linchu Realm (the last one), Chi Ting was "murdered" by his disciples one day after he took office as the Lord of the Nine Rings Sect.
Chi Ting died, and he died in an extremely tortured manner - he was hit in the head by a powerful blow from a century-old jujube tree mixed with bad dates at the mountain pass.
The reason why the jujube tree hit her was because her young apprentice Bai Tang was hungry and wanted to eat jujubes. So the apprentices chopped down the jujube tree, and unfortunately she became the victim of the tree's attack.
