It tells the story of the protagonist, Prince Chongli, who was falsely accused by his stepmother of being a monster, and was therefore exiled by the old king. During his exile, Chongli and his stepmother's son, his younger brother Chongming, were as close as brothers. During the exile, the two suffered from hunger and thirst, and the younger brother unfortunately passed out. Chongli went to the immortal alone to learn magic to save his younger brother. On the way to find the immortal, Chongli accidentally discovered that there was no rain in Gaoqia Kingdom due to a long drought. King Gaoqia wanted to find children born in the year of the dragon to offer sacrifices to the lake to pray for rain. In order to prevent other dragon children from being harmed, Chongli took the initiative to throw himself into the sea after settling his younger brother. The Dragon King was deeply moved and vowed not to cannibalism and evil again, and sent Chongli to the immortal's residence. Since then, the country has enjoyed good weather and good harvests. In order to reward the great immortal for welcoming him into the palace and making offerings, King Gaoqia accompanied him to the palace. Afterwards, Chong Li found Chong Ming who was rescued by the immortal, and the two brothers reunited. The two brothers joined forces to defeat the mountain ghost and the rebellious minister Chisu, and returned to their motherland one after another. The story expresses how two half-brothers can live together in harmony and friendship as brothers, and also praises the brother's spirit of self-sacrifice. This spirit of sacrificing oneself to relieve the pain of others is the soul of the whole story.
