Yanli is the only god of murder in heaven and earth. He has never caused harm to the world but everyone has killed him. He was eventually sealed on Mount Buzhou by the God of War Changying. Changying also died due to exhaustion of his divine power.
Thousands of years later, Ji Bai left his master Wanjian Sect and went to Buzhou Mountain to find his natal sword, and met Yanli who became the sword spirit.
