A long time later——
We know the dark Black family house at 12 Grimmauld Place, London.
We know about those enchanted curtains that can never be opened.
We know those long, candlelit corridors.
We know about the prison in Azkaban.
We know the darkness that Dementors bring.
We know those heavily locked, windowless cells.
We know about the wanted posters posted all over the streets for crazy murderers.
We know the nights when wolves roam.
We know about the dark, dank caves outside Hogsmeade.
We know that during the long bleak summer that belonged to the Order of the Phoenix, he sat by the kitchen fireplace, alone, looking at the jumping flames.
We know the room that is sunken deep underground and cannot see the light of day. We know the slightly floating curtain.
As he walked away, only the light from his wand illuminated his face.
So, much later, we learned that he wasn't lying.
