Nick Taven always knew he was not hypnotized. He did fall in love with Tai Qi, who had a hypocritical gentleman appearance but was hopeless on the inside.
But it doesn't matter, Nick is an abandoned wild dog, and he is also hopeless. He may have hoped that Taichi could rescue him from the abyss, but in the end he found that saving each other when they fell together was the best ending for them.
