Meng Zhe is a well-established civil servant. Even though he grew up listening to his grandmother's "strange stories", he still firmly believes in materialism.
Things like "There is a dragon sleeping on the bottom of the sea, and there is a turtle that can only speak human language on the top of the mountain in the village..." And so on. In his eyes, they are all feudal superstitions, and he has always scorned them.
