Yao Niang was the dancer of Li Yu, the empress of the Southern Tang Dynasty. She entertained the empress by binding her feet and dancing, and the empress admired her very much. Tang Hao of the Southern Tang Dynasty once wrote a couplet about Yao Niang's dance, "The flowers in the lotus are better, and the moon in the clouds is new." However, the Southern Tang Dynasty soon perished.
