Bian Ning met Sergey Sergey Zhdanov, an expert from the Soviet Union who came to China to aid construction, whom he met at a party, and the two gradually fell in love during their work contacts.

As Sino-Soviet relations turned cold, the study abroad training program was suspended, and Bian Ning, who didn't know what was going on, rashly wrote a letter to his superiors.
Bian Ning was assigned to Goutitun, deep in the Xiaoxing'an Mountains. Zhdanov was also punished for falling in love with Bian Ning, which was considered a violation of the Soviet Union's foreign-related disciplines. Before leaving China, he compiled the "Memorandum on Power Equipment Troubleshooting" overnight before leaving China, privately gave it to Bian Yongxiang and asked him to forward a gift to Bian Ning.

At that time, Bian Ning, who was regarded as a Soviet revisionist spy, was criticized and suffered a car accident while in a daze. Under the careful care of her classmate Lu Zhiyuan, she gradually recovered to health. Lu Zhiyuan resolutely came to Gututun from Beibin City for Bian Ning. Through years of persistence and efforts by Bian Ning, Lu Zhiyuan and others, Gututun Primary School has developed into a central school well-known in mountainous areas.
With the reform and opening up, China and the Soviet Union re-established new bilateral exchanges. Bian Ning's student Wang Erzhu is going to work in the Urals, Russia for a period of time. Lu Zhiyuan entrusted him to find Zhdanov, the Soviet expert who participated in the construction aid work in Beibin.
