Lei Yu is a retired soldier. The novel begins with Lei Yu's last stage of service. He went through military reorganization and retirement, was unemployed and working at home, encountered a terrorist attack, and stepped forward. With more than 20 years of training in the army, he single-handedly quelled the terrorist incident. He was later re-recruited by the country and the army, and started a cheating second military career.
Purpose: to demonstrate the firm revolutionary ideals and beliefs of Chinese military personnel, especially retired military personnel.
