Lin Jiu (Xie Fei's mother) had terminal cancer and took Xie Fei back to Qingzhou (hometown). Lin Jiu and Jiang Qing's mother were old acquaintances, so Lin Jiu gave Xie Fei to Jiang Qing and Jiang Lin to help take care of her.
