There are three protagonists in the book - Xiao Tao, a girl with a well-behaved and generous personality; Shangguan Zhu, the second young master with a cold and caring personality; and Xiao Lei, a "sister-protecting maniac" with a cheerful and lively personality. Xiao Tao is a Chinese-Korean mixed race. By chance, she met Shangguan Zhu, the second young master of the Shangguan family, and became best friends with him. When she was in sixth grade, her parents got food poisoning from eating last year's beef. She stayed at home by herself. Shangguanzhu didn't trust her when she found out, so Shangguanzhu invited her to live at his house. At the end of August of the same year, she learned a surprising news - she had a brother named Xiao Lei. Xiao Lei has been studying and working overseas and has never been back since she was born. Xiao Lei wanted to take his sister over to live with him, but neither Shangguanzhu nor Xiao Tao were happy. The brother tried his best to "steal" her out of Shangguan's house, but all failed.
