Zhang Gui was the son of Zhang Hongfan, an old general who had lost his country, and Zhang Liusun was the most popular Taoist priest in the capital. Zhang Gui met Zhang Liusun by chance when he went to Beijing to meet the saint. Zhang Liusun recognized Zhang Gui, so he followed him south to the south of the Yangtze River and adopted Zhang Gui as his adopted son.
