That winter, in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Department of Health dispatched a group of medical staff from major hospitals in the city to form medical teams to conduct a one-year medical tour in remote villages across the province. The medical team composed of me and three colleagues from the hospital was stationed at a small village called Kaoshantun, which is adjacent to Xiaoxinganling. Having lived and worked in a densely populated provincial capital for many years, this was the first time I experienced the beautiful scenery of Xiaoxing'an Mountains in winter. The snow-covered Xiaoxinan Mountains stretch for hundreds of miles. Birch forests and larch trees grow tall and tall along the rolling mountains.
