Around 2000, there was a wave of working abroad in my hometown. Whether they were going out as international students, applying for business inspection visas, or even changing their passports to smuggle out of the country, they would do whatever it took to get out. The destinations were Japan and South Korea in Asia, the United Kingdom, Spain and Italy in Europe, the United States and Canada in North America, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia in South America. Since then, as folks working abroad have been sending back a steady stream of foreign exchange, we have also been introduced to colorful banknotes from various countries such as US dollars, pounds, euros, Japanese yen and pesos. Villas in our hometown have been built one after another, and everyone is talking about going abroad. So, I couldn't sit still anymore…
