On the first day of the second year of high school, Yu Xiaoyu ran into An Yuyuan's arms with a candy cake she had just snatched from the cafeteria - her white shirt was stained with icing sugar, and the way he rubbed it with a frown looked like the "cold" horse chestnut tree on her balcony, while she herself was clearly like the purple bamboo plum on the desk that grew wildly when exposed to light, and was a bit reckless in its excitement.
No one thought that this pair of people with "mismatched painting styles" would get involved with each other: Yu Xiaoyu always stuffed freshly baked cranberry cookies into An Yuyuan's table, saying "feed the horse chestnut something sweet to make it grow taller"; An Yuyuan would silently hand over warm milk when she stayed up late for the baking competition to finish the manuscript, along with a note that read "Too much sugar will make you fat." Quarrels were a daily occurrence - she thought he was "like a stone that cannot be heated", and he laughed at her for being "so noisy that it could alarm the whole teaching building", but he would turn around and protect her when she was in trouble. When she was dejected after failing to bake, he would take a bite of the burnt snack and say it was "better than the food in the cafeteria".
