The protagonist "I" is a decadent young man who loves the Beat Generation and Buddhist scriptures. Because of Somerset Maugham's books, I got acquainted with the heroine, the literary young man Ziyi.
The book contains "my" thinking about life, cognition of religion, attitude towards emotions, and passion for reading. After "I" fell in love with Ziyi, I became active and my life got on the right track.
Ziyi does not want to be bound by "I" and always wants to try the taboos on the fringes of society, which leads to conflicts.
The meaning of youth redemption, for "me", is to change from decadence to active life; for Ziyi, it is to stop amidst the taboos on the edge of society.
