Many years later, when Ian Hughes was huddled in a closed control room, silently counting down his life, he vaguely remembered that distant and blurry afternoon, when the white sunlight filled his retinas, and the silver-white world was like the surface of the moon. And how the two young and energetic people naturally gave up the opportunity to get close to each other.
The space between them can be the narrow aisle between two beds, it can be the shoulders of several strangers, it can be tens of thousands of light-years away, and it can end up being ridiculously close or far in front of the three-dimensional TV screen. "There will never be a chance to be so close again", this kind of words are only realized at the end.
