The heroine is usually the key to a romance novel. Nowadays, most romance heroines are beautiful or talented or hard-working or aloof and independent. These are of course all necessary factors for being a protagonist. But it always feels pretentious and fake. Most people are mediocre, often a balance of strengths and weaknesses. So I wanted to write a story about so-called "diaos" (no derogatory meaning at all) that I thought would resonate a little bit.
