"We dream together at night, we wear the same makeup at dawn, and the flowers in the mirror are as beautiful as each other. The boudoir sings to each other step by step, just like a husband and wife. From this life to the next, we take turns to be phoenixes, turning the tents of the couple upside down."
——(Qing Dynasty) Li Yu's "The Companion of Lian Xiang"
.
"The night is the same as the dream, the dawn is the same makeup - Shenglan, do you think our life is the same as in the drama?"
.
"You and I should have known that what was in the play was not true."
The original chapter of "The Companion of Lian Xiang" is also known as "The Fragrance of Beauty". One of the first legendary collections "Ten Songs of Li Weng" written by the Qing Dynasty dramatist Li Yu in 1651 tells the story of two women who met through poetry and fell in love with each other. The two tried every means to stay together - this method was nothing other than that they were married to the same man. Therefore, the core of the original story was the love between women in the male gaze of a patriarchal society.
This article only borrows the name and writes a story that takes the Republic of China period as the foothold of the era. It is also about the love between two women. Although we are still living in a patriarchal society, there is another layer of manifestation.
