Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), is a progressive and fatal neurodegenerative disease.
The cause is the degeneration of motor neurons (motor neurons) that control voluntary muscles in the central nervous system. ALS is a type of muscular dystrophy (MND). Because the upper and lower motor neurons (upper and lower motor neurons) degenerate and die and stop sending messages to the muscles. When they are unable to function, the muscles gradually weaken and atrophy (atrophy). Eventually, the brain completely loses its ability to control voluntary movement. The disease does not necessarily affect the patient's mental functioning in the same way that Alzheimer's disease does. In contrast, those with advanced disease retain pre-morbid memories, the same personality and intelligence.
