In the summer solstice of the 18th year of Shunde, the Su family became famous in a battle in front of the Liulang Palace. The emperor made an exception and gave him the position of young master with the same title as the crown prince. He was ten years old that year.
In the autumn of the 19th year of Shunde, the prince Zhou Chuyan was debauched and ignorant of state affairs. The emperor was angry and deposed his crown prince and moved outside the palace.
In the spring of the 21st year of Shunde, the third prince Zhou Chuhuai won the emperor's heart and was established as the prince. He entered the East Palace at the age of fifteen.
In the twenty-sixth year of Shunde, the emperor died and the prince ascended the throne, changing his reign to "Shunhuai".
