An ancient short story
Tao Xuezhi: "I drank thirty jars of bitter wine, read three hundred volumes of Buddhist scriptures, and traveled three thousand miles of mountains and rivers, but I never saw him again. I want to forget him, but I can't let him go."
Linjin: "When you drink another three hundred pots of old wine and fall in love with a monk who knows how to recite scriptures, and then look back at the mountains and rivers you have traveled through, you will find that besides him, there are many things in this world that you are reluctant to part with."
Tao Xuezhi was puzzled: "Why do you like monks?"
Linjin said matter-of-factly: "Buddhist scriptures can only teach you how to meditate, but they cannot teach you love or hate, and they are written by monks. So, isn't it more useful to like a monk who knows how to recite Buddhist scriptures than to read Buddhist scriptures?"
Tao Xuezhi muttered: "How can any monk in the world marry a wife?"
The atmosphere was dull for a while.
Linjin suddenly said: "Yes." He said with a smile, "The poor monk drank three hundred pots of old wine with the benefactor, broke the precepts and returned to secular life, and the benefactor reluctantly married the poor monk. How about it?"
Tao Xuezhi smiled: "You are not the only monk in the world who knows how to recite sutras!"
"Yes, but the poor monk has one thing they don't have."
"What?"
Linjin said softly: "I like you, do they?"
