' The ancestors passed down this sentence to teach future generations not to be too high-minded but to focus on the basics and to get ahead in everything they do. But this is a shameful thing to say. If nothing else, even the three hundred and sixty lines themselves have to be divided into upper, middle and lower categories.
Those petty thieves, actors, and the like, even if they are at the top, are still of the lowest level. Not to mention emperors and generals, even ordinary people from relatively well-off families look down upon them. But there is an exception for a category of people. No matter what they do, whether they are thieves or prostitutes, as long as they are in this category, they belong to the ninth class, second only to emperors, sages, and hermits, and before civil warriors, farmers, workers, and merchants. This is called - Tongxian.
