"The Tribulation of Wind and Clouds" tells the story that after human beings were destroyed by the waters of the Tianhe River, the Empress Nuwa created humans by rubbing earth on the Sansheng Stone, and fabricated many creatures such as Ji Shuicheng (Xuanyuan), Jiang Shuicheng (Emperor Yan), Shui Qingying, lions, tigers, etc. The snake-shaped pattern printed on the Sansheng Stone by Empress Nuwa turned into a dragon (Shui Linze) by chance; Emperor Yan fought with Xuanyuan in order to seize the Xuanyuan Sword, and Emperor Yan was defeated and fled; after being injured, Shui Qingying met Emperor Yan by chance by the Bibo Pool and helped him resurrect the clay figurine, forming the Emperor Yan tribe.
When Emperor Yan heard that Xuanyuan was proclaimed king, he furiously killed the people of the Xuanyuan tribe, triggering a struggle between the two tribes. Xuanyuan was resurrected, and Shui Qingying was seriously injured in order to save Emperor Yan. Emperor Yan took Shui Qingying to Buzhou Mountain to find Empress Nuwa for treatment, but stayed in Buzhou Mountain. Empress Nuwa took Shui Qingying to Bibotan for treatment, and taught Shui Qingying and Shui Linze the magic. Due to various reasons, Shui Qingying and Shui Linze arrived at the Xuanyuan tribe.
Chiyou became a demon, and Shui Linze, Shui Qingying, and Xuanyuan fought with him. Xuanyuan was injured in order to save Shui Qingying; Shui Qingying took care of the injured Xuanyuan, secretly falling in love. Shui Qingying discovered that his beloved Yan Emperor was having an affair with Jiang Yuerong, and became angry and fell in love with Xuanyuan; Yan Emperor pursued Shui Qingying to the Xuanyuan tribe, and Li Shaobai took the opportunity to burn the Xuanyuan tribe and capture Yunruo.
