Legend has it that there are 108 lotus lanterns in front of the Buddha burning 108 kinds of troubles in the world. Every time a lamp is damaged, a new lamp will appear and continue to burn until one day there are 109 new lamps. The lamp has no wick. The Buddha sighed and threw the lamp into the world and forgot about it to find its wick.
