"The Biography of the Empresses of the Jin Dynasty" records that Empress Dowager Chi of Zhaochen was the daughter of Chi Jianxian, the former Fengguo general. She was first named Chi Zhaoyuan. She had given birth to Princess Wuyou and Emperor Mingchang. Later, Emperor Mingchang ascended the throne and respected his mother Chi as the empress dowager.
