In 937 AD, Xu Zhigao deposed Yang Pu, proclaimed himself king, and named the country Daqi, declaring the demise of the Southern Wu regime in history. The following year, he settled in Jinling and established it as the capital of the country. He changed his surname to Li and called him Li Min. He claimed to be a descendant of the Li family of the Tang Dynasty. He also changed the name of the country to Tang, and it was called Southern Tang in history. This short-lived but glorious dynasty began.
