The story of a group of eight young generals in Tainan, Taiwan, in 1937.
The wind smokes the sweet willows, how can there be sorrow in all four seasons? There is a right way in heaven and earth, and black and white are impermanent.
"Why should we study? If we study well, will we earn money and have food to eat?" I often ask myself over and over in my mind, those adults always tell us to study. Only if we study well can we have a good future. But after we really study well and get the academic qualifications that others dream of, what can we do?
When I was young, I always liked to imagine what kind of person I would become when I grew up. I often complained that life was always out of my control, but how many people are so lucky that they can control everything? Or maybe, as time goes by, self-pity gradually becomes a kind of fun? Why are good times always only in the old days?
Being caught in the rain and looking at the boring urban street scene, I suddenly remembered the countless streets and trails where I had been soaked in the rain and ran together with my brothers. Holding up an umbrella - even though I love the coolness of the rain, blending into the crowd is a reality that the world has taught me when I grow up - I think of those scenes in the past, where no one needs to pretend, they can be scolded and beaten whenever they want, as if the world is spinning around themselves.
I miss running together in the countryside and fields in the rain, I miss fighting each other just for who eats more watermelon, I miss sharing the same hatred, no matter who is bullied.
I miss those days when brothers stayed with each other, knew each other and cherished each other.
