At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, Wang Mang usurped the throne and hunted down Liu Xiu, a descendant of the Han Dynasty. Liu Xiu fled thousands of miles to the Langya Valley, but was rescued by Sun Yuniang, a mulberry picker. Liu Xiu was grateful and pointed to the Eastern Han Dynasty Gu as proof that one day when he ascended the throne, he would recruit Yu Niang as his concubine. Yu Niang waited ten years but failed, so she jumped to Xianglong Pond to seek death. His mother was furious and went to Beijing to look for Liu Xiu. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty remembered Yu Niang in a trance, and was deeply saddened. He made Yu Niang his concubine and built 108 tombs in her memory. The story of the Royal Burial Forest is not a story.
