In 1926, Lin Mengshu was born into a wealthy family that was part businessman and part farmer in Shangyan Village, Sha County, Hebei Province. She lost her mother when she was three years old and was abused by her stepmother. As an adult, she married a Kuomintang officer in an arranged marriage. After liberation, her father-in-law was suppressed and therefore became a subject of supervision. The Mao family had an adopted boy, Shi Suo, who was the long-term worker of the Mao family, and gave the dream book great help. In the early 1960s, Mengshu went to Heilongjiang to seek refuge with Shisuo in order to make a living, but due to an unexpected incident, they separated him for many years. Twenty years later, Meng Shu returned to her hometown after becoming seriously ill, where she saw the stone lock waiting for her. After the dream book passed away, Mao Jiaxuan returned to China via Taiwan, only to see the palindrome poem on the brocade handkerchief he gave to the dream book.
