"Tongjian of the Immortals of the Past Dynasties" states:
"As soon as Pangu stretched out his body, the sky became higher and the earth fell. And the sky and the earth were connected. He held a chisel in his left hand and an ax in his right hand, either chopping with an ax or using a chisel. It was a divine power, and over time the heaven and the earth were divided. The two qi rose and fell, the clear one above was the sky, and the turbid one was below the earth. This was the beginning of chaos."
After Pangu founded the world, he concentrated his divine power into Pangu's ax and sealed it at the foot of Mount Buzhou. Later, the two tribes of Chiyou and Huangdi fought, and Huangdi used the power of Pangu's ax to defeat the Chiyou tribe. From then on, the descendants of the Yellow Emperor were the divine tribe, living above the nine heavens, and were in charge of the affairs of the three realms.
