In the Christian context, God is the Heavenly Father. He created human beings in a place where "mist rises and moistens the earth" and then expelled them from the Garden of Eden. Human beings then have the ideal of returning to the Heavenly Father's paradise to seek eternal life.
The scenery in the mist is the origin of human beings, and finding the father means finding the destination and returning to the eternal home.
