The "Satipaṭṭhāna Sutra" says: Some officials of King Asura often parade on the sea, and they often see the moon goddess playing on the top of Udayan Mountain, floating in the world, living in the glazed light, dignified and beautiful, a hundred times better than the jade girl of the heavenly palace. These officials then went to the Asura Palace and said to King Asura: "Your Majesty, we saw the Full Moon Goddess. She is dignified and beautiful, and is a hundred times stronger than the Jade Girl in the Heavenly Palace."
After hearing this, King Asura fell in love and wanted to take a look at this moon goddess immediately. King Asura then decorated his body with countless jewels and jeweled robes, blocked the sun and moon with his hands, and looked at the goddess on the moon like a goddess. After Asura blocked the moon with his hand, the moonlight was blocked and the sky became dark.
For this reason, the moon is obscured, which is called a lunar eclipse. And because King Asura covered the sun and the moon twice, an eclipse of the sun and the moon occurred, and there was a loud sound from the sky.
