Laozi said: The best is like water. Water is good for all things and does not struggle. It is disliked by everyone, so it is close to the Tao. Confucius: "Water has nine virtues, so a gentleman must observe water when he encounters it."
"Confucius looked at the water flowing in the east. Zigong asked Confucius: "What is the reason why a gentleman must look at the big water when he sees it?" Confucius said: "The water is everywhere with all living beings without doing anything, which is like virtue. When it flows, the skirt under the skirt is restrained, and it must follow its principles, like the meaning, and its water flow is almost unfinished, like the Tao. If there is a decisive action, the answer is as silent as the sound, and it is not afraid to go to the valley of hundreds of feet, as if it is brave. The main measure must be flat, like the law. The surplus does not seek generality, it seems to be right. The yue is slightly broad, like observation. Use it to go out and enter, and use it to make fresh things. It seems to be good. It will be eastward after all twists and turns, like ambition. Therefore, when you see the big water, you must observe it.'"
"If you don't see yourself, you will be clear; if you don't know what you are, you will be clear; if you don't cut yourself off, you will be successful; if you are not proud of yourself, you will be strong; if you don't fight, no one in the world can compete with you."
