A symbolist novel, "The Red Box" symbolizes Tiananmen. There are three legendary stories about red boxes in the novel: the red box containing documents and badges, the red box containing money, gold, silver and jewelry, and the red box containing rare books, calligraphy and paintings. They in turn symbolize the politics, economy, and culture after the founding of New China, and also represent the three historical stages that New China has experienced: "revolution", reform and opening up, and anti-corruption. It is also the three stages of the protagonist's growth experience: study, agency work, and cultural work, revealing the history of China's development and the development status of the world.
