"Have you ever thought about liking two people at the same time?"
"No. I don't care about anyone if I like someone. I don't care about anyone else." She smiled.
He also smiled and looked at her side face quietly. It was still the same as when they first met, so beautiful that it made him feel bad.
"It's your turn."
"Do you like me?" She turned her head and looked at him, pursed her lips and smiled, which was actually a little bright. Her eyes were straight and breathtaking. There was no drunkenness or expectation, but there was brightness and a hint of pride.
Her smile hurt him deeply. He was stunned and even breathing became difficult.
He couldn't answer, he knew that if he said yes, then everything would progress by leaps and bounds, and then one day it would all come to an end, and someone as infatuated as him would definitely be trapped in it. He also knew that he had excellent academic performance and a bright future, and no one would allow him to waste it for a girl. Besides, she must be playing with him, and her current ambiguity is no different from others. Her feelings are still like heartless weeds. Once the fire is done, they will continue to spread over the wild grass. They will never be willing to rest safely beside his mature tree. No matter how beautiful her smile is, she cannot have it.
He met her eyes with difficulty, staring at her tenderness like every afternoon, without a trace of bitterness and helplessness.
"I don't like it." His voice was as calm as water.
"Oh, I know." She sat upright and looked straight at the glass in her hand.
As slow as he was, he didn't notice her brief hesitation and the loss that flashed in her eyes.
"I'm leaving."
"Yeah." She smiled sweetly.
Turning around, his breathing finally calmed.
