In my personal impression of watching the movie (I have not read the original comics, only the movies and Japanese comics), I feel that Tadashi is not a person who pays special attention to efficiency, because he chose to make a care robot that is bulky, but mostly air inside, with only a solid core. This mechanical device (with the chip temporarily removed) cannot allow humans to increase speed, improve the convenience of daily life, and the visual effects are not gorgeous, but will only appear when needed.
But once the core thing is added (in the case of Baymax, it is the chip), the thing changes. It can not only complete things that the "machine part" can do, such as healing and physical fitness monitoring. In this article, the music box can emit sound, and the bionic beast can walk. It can also do things that the "machine part" cannot do, and these things can only be done by humans. I call this part romance.
There is a romantic atmosphere at the heart of Tadashi, and this characteristic (in my imagination) will appear in everything he makes. Indeed, under the setting of the movie, it is too unrealistic to go back and make a music box that may not be able to sing accurately. It is obvious that with a small micro-control program, you can record your own voice and play it countless times. Spending so much volume and design just to achieve an action that can be done with a small chip is not efficient at all, but I still think this is what Tadashi can do, and I like him very much.
