In the first year of Xuanhe's reign, Lin Lingsu, the national preceptor, petitioned to destroy the Buddha; all the monks in the world became virtuous priests and wore Taoist uniforms.
In the same year, Lin Lingsu petitioned to move the capital and execute Tong Cai, but the emperor refused to listen. Then he asked for his bones to return home, but the imperial edict refused.
In the winter of October of that year, a letter was written on the censor's desk saying that Lin Lingsu had made an unreasonable proposal to move the capital, deceived the saints, changed Buddhism, and slandered the ministers.
The imperial master laughed when he heard this, and sealed back the things given by Huizong before and after him. He took his clothes and walked out of the palace, announcing that he would not return.
It may be said that his body was dismembered and left, or that he was killed by monks on the way to Chuzhou and was never seen again.
