The people lived and worked in peace and contentment, and the world was singing and dancing in peace. Later, Gonggong competed with Zhuanxu for the throne, but he was defeated and his head touched Mount Buzhou. As a result, the pillars of heaven were broken, the earth was inexhaustible, the four poles were abandoned, the nine states were split, the sky tilted to the northwest, the earth sank to the southeast, floods occurred, fires spread, and people were displaced. Nuwa couldn't bear to see her people suffer, so she decided to mend the sky to save the people. So, Nuwa piled huge stones as a furnace on the top of Tiantai Mountain, took five-color soil as material, and borrowed the sun's divine fire. It lasted nine days and nine nights, and she built 36,501 five-color boulders. Then it took nine days and nine nights to repair the sky with 36,500 multicolored stones. The remaining piece of the sky-repairing stone was left by Nuwa and disappeared.
