Luo Ran is a wood carver in a small town. His family is poor. He left his hometown and came to this small town and opened a wood carving shop called Tao Ranju. One day, he was delighted with a piece of high-quality nanmu, and with a flash of inspiration, he carved it into a bamboo horse - pottery wood. It's night, and the wood carvings become fine and transformed into human beings. Luo Ran didn't know, thinking it was the one he loved, so they lived together. Soon, Luo Ran's enemies came looking for him, and the real Tao Mu appeared, revealing the secret of Luo Ran's family ruin. Tao Mu, the wood spirit, sacrificed his life to save Luo Ran, but eventually turned into a dead tree. Luo Ran grieved, vomited blood and died.
