There are eight sufferings in life: birth, old age, illness, death, separation from love, long-lasting resentment, not being able to get what you want, and not being able to let go.
Above the western sky, the Buddha saw all the suffering in the world, but he could not save the sentient beings who had no destiny. He could only shed a tear of compassion.
Tears fell on the white lotus in front of the Buddha, awakening the lotus that had been sleeping for thousands of years.
Bai Lian asked: Why did Buddha cry?
Buddha said: All living beings suffer.
Bai Lian asked again: What is suffering?
Buddha said: Self-grasping is the root of suffering. The reason why people suffer is that they pursue the wrong things.
Bai Lian wonders, since it is suffering, why do people still pursue it?
Buddha remained silent.
Bai Lian kept thinking about this question, but couldn't get an answer.
So it floated down from the Buddhist altar and fell into the world of mortals.
