The Gulf Stream is the world's largest warm ocean current, also known as the Gulf of Mexico (warm) Stream. Although part of the Gulf Stream comes from the Gulf of Mexico, most of it comes from the Caribbean Sea. When the south and north equatorial currents merge in the western Atlantic Ocean, they enter the Caribbean Sea and pass through the Yucatan Strait. A small part of them enters the Gulf of Mexico and then flows along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Most of the currents turn sharply eastward and enter the Atlantic Ocean from the Strait of Florida in the United States.
