A rabbit met a wolf. The wolf announced that he did not like the rabbit's way of life. (Wolves like their own way of life and believe it is the only reasonable way to live.) Earthquakes and lightning strikes are blamed on rabbits, because animals that eat lettuce are known to cause thunder and lightning, and the rabbit knocks the ground with his hind legs, which of course causes earthquakes. The wolf threatened that if the rabbit did not change his ways, he would teach the rabbit a lesson. The rabbit decided to escape to a desert island. But other animals living far away laughed at him and said: "You must bravely stay where you are. There is no room for escapees in this world. If the wolf attacks you, we will try to help you as much as possible." So the rabbit continued to live near the wolf. One day, a terrible flood occurred. Rabbits were still blamed, as the long-eared carrot-munching animals are known to cause flooding. For his own benefit, the wolf attacked the rabbit; and to protect himself, the wolf trapped him in a dark cave.
When there's no news from the rabbit for weeks, the other animals demand to know what's going on. The wolf replied that the rabbit had been eaten. Since the rabbit has been eaten, the matter is purely an internal matter. But other animals warned that if rabbit-eating was not justified, they would unite to deal with the wolves. In this case, the wolf gave a reason. "He wants to escape," said the wolf. "You also know that there is no room for escapees in this world."
