A pair of human skeletons were unearthed from a Neolithic site in Vardallo, an industrial city in Mantua, northern Italy. The man and woman embraced each other for at least five thousand years, becoming an eternal embrace.
The two faced each other, hugging each other with their hands and legs bent. The man lying on the left has an arrow stabbed into his spine, while the woman has an arrow shot into the side of her head.
Archaeologists have analyzed that one of the reasons why the two people showed this posture is that the man was killed and the woman followed her to die for love in the hope of companionship in the afterlife, just like the story of Romeo and Juliet, but with a different ending.
The eternal lovers are now nicknamed by archaeologists as the "Vadalo Lovers."
