Reading guide: Only chapters 3-6 of "Severe Winter" and the Ping Ai extras are retained. The summary is that Hattori Heiji left his ex-girlfriend Kazuha in the face of danger and joined the black organization to lurk for five years. His identity was exposed and he was shot. In fact, he lived with Haibara Ai. He pretended to be dead while she worked hard to develop the APTX-4869 antidote (for Kudo). A year later, the organization was wiped out, and Ai returned to his true form and left. Heiji returned to Japan with the antidote and found that high school student Kudo was already with Xiaolan, and Kazuha thought he was dead and had married someone else.
